BCF Middle and Elementary School English Teachers TIP Project
 

English is one of the major courses in China's middle and elementary schools. It is one of toughest courses to the students, in particular, to students living in vast rural area. To improve spoke English of English teachers in middle and elementary schools and quality of English courses in rural area, BCF is committed to building capacity of English teachers in middle and elementary schools, which will improve the overall quality of English teaching of the whole country.¡£

Since 2005, BCF started to examine the status of English Education in middle and elementary schools and evaluate the outstanding issues in English learning existing in middle and elementary school students. Some training institutes were contacted to design the project. Since 2006, BCF started to work with Educational Services Exchange with China (ESEC£©to implement TIP¡£

ESEC was initiated by Dr.Yu Guoliang in L.A in 1980, which is accredited by Ministry of Education and Sate Foreign Talents Administration.¡£ESEC ever worked with about 300 universities and government agencies, 3,000 American experts were sent to teach in China, thousands of English training courses were organized, there are more than 100,000 trainees who received certificate.

TIP is a spoken English training program developed by ESEC and Peking University, its advantage is to provide a integrated English-speaking circumstance in China, the trainees will develop their capacity to think, listen and talk in English. Meanwhile, the trainees will also learn the advanced English training methodology and concepts. For more information on this training program, please log on TI web site£¨www.tip.org.cn£©.

TIP program was launched in summer of 2005. From September of 2006 to April of 20007, 6 training courses designed for middle and elementary schools English teachers were organized in Peking University, 700 English teachers from Sichuan, Yuan and other provinces participated the courses From 2006 to April of 2007, BCF supported 200 English teachers to participate the TIP. The effectiveness of training was highly spoken by the participants and relevant education departments including Public English Teaching Unit of Peking University.

Objective of the Project

A group of rural middle and elementary school English teachers will be trained to teach in English and apply advanced pro active teaching methodology. Their capacity will be built to improve English education in rural area.

Training development strategy and implementation process

Qualified teachers will be selected by working with education departments at all levels to participate the TIP in Beijing. Some of them will be certified as CTT. These CTT will go back to train other teachers and organize other follow-up activities.
